I developed this profile on Magnum photographer Newsha Tavakolian as she returned to her personal archive for her exhibition “And They Laughed at Me.” It combines interview and critique through hours of conversation and close reading of her work. In the narrative, I trace her evolution as a visual storyteller, in addition to the tension between memory, authorship, and the responsibility that comes with bearing witness.
